Kongo Central: Public sanitation and hygiene control campaign launched in Mbanza-Ngungu

Mbanza-Ngungu, June 10th, 2026 (CPA).- A public sanitation and hygiene control campaign has been launched in Mbanza-Ngungu, in Kongo Central Province, southwestern Democratic Republic of the Congo, by the territorial administrator, CPA learned on Wednesday from an administrative source.

“The objective of this campaign is to ensure a healthy environment and prevent diseases associated with poor sanitation,” said Willy Mankumbani, Territorial Administrator of Mbanza-Ngungu. On the occasion, he stressed the need for every citizen to actively contribute to maintaining a clean living environment. “Every resident is encouraged to adopt responsible behavior because hygiene is everyone’s responsibility,” the head of the territorial executive said.

To implement this initiative, the local public hygiene service has been strengthened through the training of sanitation inspectors responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental standards. On a daily basis, these officers will conduct inspections in markets, residential compounds, informal restaurants (malewas) and public spaces to raise public awareness and monitor sanitary conditions. During this initial phase, the territorial administrator and the sanitation team inspected the hygiene facilities of the Congolese National Police (PNC), the central market and several food vending sites. The territorial authority also announced the involvement of judicial police officers (OPJs), who will be responsible for issuing citations and imposing sanctions on offenders.
