Kinshasa, July 15th, 2026 (CPA). – The Government’s support for the revival of the sugar industry has been reaffirmed by the Minister in charge of the National Economy during a visit to the Kuilu-Ngongo Sugar Company in Kongo Central province, in the south-west of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to a press release consulted on Wednesday by CPA. “The Government is prepared to support the sugar company, in particular through the necessary tax exemptions to support its development and strengthen its competitiveness,” has declared the Minister in charge of the National Economy, as quoted by the source. According to the document, this mission aimed to assess the company’s operations and its prospects for development. Daniel Mukoko Samba has had discussions with the company’s management before touring the various facilities at the factory. The discussions have focused on the company’s activities, the challenges it faces and the prospects for the development of sugar production. The press release also specifies that, for the 2026 sugar season, the company has set itself a production target of 65,000 tonnes of sugar. Achieving this volume will entitle workers to a bonus equivalent to 100 per cent of one month’s salary. If production reaches 80,000 tonnes, this bonus will be increased to 200 per cent of a month’s salary. This visit reflects the Government’s commitment to encourage investment in the sugar industry and to support businesses in order to increase local production, create jobs and reduce sugar imports into the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
