Kinshasa, September 23rd, 2026 (CPA).- The structuring of the multi-party system in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) around three political currents has been proposed in a book entitled ‘Reorganising Congolese Democracy’, by a Congolese writer interviewed by the CPA on Wednesday. “I am not proposing to abolish democracy or the multi-party system. Rather, I am proposing to make them more coherent, more transparent and more effective,” has declared Moïse Munganga, the author of the book. According to him, the proliferation of political parties in DRC is not necessarily accompanied by a diversity of clearly identifiable political visions. He believes that the system is often characterised by personalities, alliances of convenience, political poaching and immediate electoral interests. The writer therefore proposes a model enabling citizens to better identify the vision championed by each political movement before casting their vote. The citizen must be able to look at an election and understand: this is the vision that this movement champions; this is how it conceives of the state, the economy, social justice, territorial organisation and governance,’ he has explained. In his book, Mr Munganga presents socialism as an approach which, in his view, is capable of addressing issues of social justice, redistribution and the protection of workers. . Federalism, for its part, is associated with decentralisation, provincial autonomy and local accountability. The author presents centrism as a quest for balance, stability, compromise and pragmatism in the running of the state. “ DRC therefore needs these different forces, but it cannot follow three contradictory voices at the same time,” he has stated, arguing that one political movement should be given the mandate to govern, whilst the others would retain a role of oversight and policy-making.
A work aimed at several categories of readers
According to the author, the book is aimed primarily at Congolese youth, but also at students, academics, researchers, political figures, journalists, members of civil society and citizens interested in the future of the country. “This book does not claim to hold the absolute truth about the political future of DRC. It is a contribution to the debate,” he has emphasised. The author also states that, through the historical figures depicted on the cover, he sought to highlight the importance of DRC’s political and intellectual memory, as well as the need to learn from the past. Finally, he believes that democracy should enable the people not only to choose leaders, but also to understand the different political visions being proposed to them. ‘Reorganising Congolese Democracy’ is a 73-page book by Moise Munganga, published by American Writers Club.
