Lualaba: the structuring and revival of the tourism sector at the centre of discussions

Kolwezi, February 3rd, 2026 (CPA). – The structuring and revival of the tourism sector have been the focus of discussions between the national Minister in charge of Tourism and the Governor of Lualaba Province, particularly on the lifting of the Tourism Promotion Fund tax and the construction of a tourist village at the source of the Congo River, CPA has learned on Tuesday from a press release. ‘We have discussed with the Governor the restructuring and revival of the tourism sector and several important issues, including the lifting of the Tourism Promotion Fund tax and the construction of a tourist village at the source of the Congo River, a project initiated by the Head of State, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo,’ has declared the Minister in charge of Tourism, Didier Mazenga, after the meeting, explaining that these discussions were aimed to boost tourism promotion in Lualaba province.

The national Minister in charge of Tourism has also highlighted the strategic role of this sector in creating jobs, particularly for young people. According to him, tourism is a major driver of employment in DRC in general, and in Lualaba province in particular. He has also indicated that Lualaba is expected to play a leading role in the development of mining tourism, an innovative model that will soon be implemented. This mission is part of the government’s desire to boost the tourism industry and contribute to the diversification of the Congolese economy, which is still largely dependent on the mining sector. With its significant natural and cultural potential, DRC intends to make tourism a pillar of sustainable and inclusive growth. ACP/
