Kindu, April 28th, 2026 (CPA).- An information session has been organised on Tuesday in Kindu by the Provincial Health Division (DSP) for media professionals working in the town of Kindu, the chief town of Maniema province in the central-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, as part of an awareness-raising campaign to mark the World Malaria Day, celebrated on April 25th of each year. “We have organised an information session to show to our partners (media professionals) the scale of malaria and its effects in our communities, in order to raise awareness amongst them to combat this disease,” has declared Masudi Mwemedi, a member of the DPS/Maniema. He has revealed that, according to 2024 data, DRC has recorded 29,123,262 cases of malaria, of which 26,374,394 were basic cases and 2,748,868 were severe cases.
Of these cases, 13,203,437 concern children under five and 1,496,714 pregnant women. Hence the alarm raised by the WHO. This year, the day is being marked under the theme: ‘Ending malaria is possible: let’s act now’. This theme is supported by the slogan: ‘Zero malaria starts at home’.
