Maniema: Lack of sanitation facilities in public buildings deplored in Kindu

Kindu, February 17th, 2026 (CPA) – The lack of sanitary facilities in public buildings, particularly in the markets of the Alunguli district in Kindu, has been deplored by a member of civil society during discussions on Tuesday with CPA.

‘We deplore the lack of sanitary facilities in the central and secondary markets of the Alunguli municipality in Kindu, the main town of Maniema,’ has said Crispin Muyololo, national coordinator of the Office of Human Rights Inspectors in Maniema. ‘The merchants and traders in these markets are mobilising to ask their neighbours living in the vicinity of these trading places to use their facilities in exchange for a small payment of between 200 and 300 Congolese francs,’ he has reported. On this occasion, Mr Muyololo has requested the involvement of the provincial government and municipal authorities in the construction of sanitary facilities in these public places as soon as possible, so that the residents who carry out their activities in these public places no longer have to worry about relieving themselves.
