Kinshasa, August 30th, 2026 (CPA).- The Qatari government has announced that its Prime Minister and Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs will visit the Iranian capital next Thursday to discuss efforts to defuse tensions with the United States, international media have reported on Sunday. “Sheikh Mohammed will arrive in Tehran tomorrow, where he will meet with several Iranian officials to discuss ways of de-escalating tensions and creating the right conditions for dialogue,” has declared Majed Al Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry oin charge of Foreign Affairs. “The discussions will focus in particular on freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and on the need to restore the situation that prevailed in this sea lane prior to February 28th,” he has added. Indeed, this visit marks the Qatari Prime Minister’s first trip to Iran since the start of the war between Washington and Tehran, launched by US and Israeli strikes against Iran at the end of last February. As a reminder, the United States and Iran, with Pakistan and Qatar acting as mediators, have signed a memorandum of understanding last June. However, its implementation has been suspended due to differences over the Strait of Hormuz. The United States have resumed its military attacks against Iran last month, whilst Tehran has retaliated by striking US military installations in several Arab states allied with Washington.
