Morocco: role of technologies in improving healthcare demonstrated at forum

Casablanca, May 7th, 2026 (CPA).– The role of technologies in improving healthcare services was demonstrated during the first edition of “Gitex Future Health Africa Morocco”, which closed on Wednesday in Casablanca, Morocco, after three days of discussions focused on innovation, artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies applied to the health sector. “Throughout these meetings, regional and international organizations presented innovative solutions, highlighting AI-assisted diagnosis, national health data platforms, patient-centered digital healthcare models as well as smart hospitals. These advances demonstrated the decisive role of technologies in improving access to healthcare services, optimizing performance and strengthening the resilience of health systems, as is the case in Morocco,” said Chakib Achour, Country Chief Representative of Gitex Africa Morocco.

According to Chakib Achour, in a statement to the press, the first edition of Gitex Future Health Africa Morocco brought together more than 200 exhibiting companies, including 60% from Morocco and 40% from abroad. The participation of 55 startups, more than 50 investors managing over 10 billion US dollars in assets, as well as several hundred B2B meetings were organized during the three-day forum, he added. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the forum, Bassma Jioudi, Vice-President for Engineering at Mohammed VI University of Sciences and Health (UM6SS), indicated that the international conference “MedAI 2026: Artificial Intelligence for Health and Innovation”, organized alongside the first edition of GITEX Future Health Africa Morocco, established itself as a platform for reflection, dialogue and collective projection toward the future. According to Ms. Jioudi, the conference reflected a deeper ambition, “allowing Africa to become a territory for the design, experimentation and production of innovative technological solutions, conceived by and for its talents, for its realities and in the service of its healthcare priorities.” She stressed the need to maintain the momentum created by this platform, considering that Morocco and Africa have their place in this new economy, “not only as consumers of solutions, but also as players capable of creating, innovating and producing.” During the forum, discussions notably focused on digital infrastructure, AI-assisted diagnosis, human resource resilience, prevention models and equitable access to healthcare. It should be noted that alongside this first edition of the forum dedicated to the impact of AI in accelerating the improvement of health systems, a number of agreements were signed, particularly on improving access to screening services, strengthening the skills of healthcare professionals, and consolidating cooperation in research matters. The conference, which brought together researchers, clinicians, engineers, public decision-makers and innovation stakeholders, received 180 submissions of scientific papers from Moroccan and international academic and research institutions, of which 33% were selected.Organized under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI, the forum resulted from a partnership between the Moroccan Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sciences and Health (FM6SS), and Kaoun International.
