Kinshasa, October 27th, 2025 (CPA).- The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) refuses to be a ‘mere supplier of raw materials,’ preferring to offer ‘sustainable and equitable climate solutions,’ President Félix Tshisekedi said on Monday at the launch of the first edition of National Climate Week in the capital, Kinshasa. ‘We refuse to be mere suppliers of raw materials. We want to build sustainable and equitable climate solutions at home that will provide opportunities for local transformation, technology transfer, job creation, skills development and co-development,’ said the Congolese Head of State. On this occasion, President Tshisekedi called on donors and world leaders to come and invest in the Congolese rainforest. « I make a passionate appeal to the international community and donors, the private sector and responsible investors. Come and invest in the Congolese rainforest, in our own energies, in our youth and in ecological innovation, » he said. For the President of the DRC, ‘every dollar invested in the Democratic Republic of Congo is not an expense; it is life insurance for the planet.’ This appeal by the Congolese Head of State was made in anticipation of COP30, which will be held at the end of 2025 in Belém, Brazil, and which is shaping up to be a turning point in the global fight against climate change.
For President Tshisekedi, by placing tropical forests, energy transition and climate justice at the heart of the debates, this major event aims to unite nations around a common vision: that of sustainable, equitable and planet-friendly development.
For the Democratic Republic of Congo, home to the world’s second largest ecological lung, this meeting represents much more than a simple diplomatic gathering. It is a historic opportunity to assert its strategic role as a solution country, promoting a green and resilient economy capable of reconciling environmental protection and national prosperity.
