‘The DRC remains a solution country for climate issues’ (President Tshisekedi)

Kinshasa, October 27th, 2025 (CPA). – President Félix Tshisekedi reaffirmed that the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is and remains a solution country for climate issues on Monday in Kinshasa, the country’s capital, at the opening of the first edition of National Climate Week.  « The Democratic Republic of the Congo is home to a unique natural heritage. It is home to the second largest tropical forest in the world, some of the most extensive peat lands on the planet, an exceptional hydrological network and a rich biodiversity. Our ecosystems sequester billions of tons of carbon, regulate the climate, purify the air, fertilize the soil, supply water and shelter endemic species. These are all invaluable ecosystem services that our country offers to the world, the very hallmark of its vocation as a solution country, » said the Congolese Head of State.  President Tshisekedi stressed that this position is an indisputable reality.  ‘This conviction is not a slogan. It is a policy, a strategy, a pact with our people and with the world. Hence the strategic importance of this week. To forge a shared and participatory vision of the role of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the planet’s climate balance and to convert this vocation into policy, funding and tangible results for the benefit of our communities and the climate,’ he said. ‘This first national climate week must therefore be the starting point for a pact of action, assuming our responsibility, mobilizing our partners and aligning nature conservation and development so that one wins over the other in a sustainable, equitable and serviceable manner for all,’ insisted the Congolese Head of State.

With this in mind, the President of the DRC highlighted the national program for the protection of the tropical forest.

« In this spirit, our national program, “We are the forest”, embodies our ambition. More than just a project, it is a hope, a green corridor of resilience and opportunity connecting province, community and generation. It reflects our commitment to restoring, protecting and enhancing our forests, creating decent green jobs, supporting local communities, particularly women, young people and indigenous peoples, and stimulating an economy that respects life and creates value on our soil, » said President Tshisekedi. At every national and international meeting, the DRC defends its position as a country that offers solutions to climate problems in order to reap the benefits.
