Kinshasa, August 17th, 2025 (CPA).- The efforts of the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo for the approval of a significant funding intended to intensify research and improve geological knowledge, have been welcomed on Sunday in Kinshasa, by the General Director of the National Geological Service of Congo (SGN-C), during an interview with CPA. « To ensure the success of the geological service, it is essential to have the necessary resources to conduct this research. That is why we would like to congratulate and applaud the efforts of DRC government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Judith Suminwa, who has approved significant funding for the geological service in order to intensify and improve the geological knowledge, » has declared Raoul Wazenga, General Director of the SGN-C. According to him, this public institution has a mission to map and study the Congolese subsoil, assess the natural risks related to geology, manage mineral resources and disseminate geological information, thereby contributing to the country’s sustainable development. Mr Wazenga has specified that this service also aims to intensify geological research throughout the Democratic Republic of the Congo. “We are currently working on the geological research areas established by a decree of the Prime Minister, which will enable us to cover all these areas by improving our geological knowledge,” he has explained. He has, in addition, indicated that the appropriation of the geological knowledge is essential for the proper management of the natural resources of the Democratic Republic of Congo. “As long as we do not know what we have, we will not be able to manage it properly. The mission of this service is to improve geological knowledge, which is done through projects and exploration in general, in order to help make the mining sector a thriving industry, as desired by the Head of State, Felix Tshisekedi, and Mr Louis Watum, Minister of Mines, who support the geological service in carrying out its missions, » has declared the General Director of SGN-C. He has specified that his institution is a highly technical and strategic service of the Congolese mining sector, under the aegis of the Ministry in charge of Mines, and is a main driver of economic growth and development in DRC, contributing directly to the well-being of the population. Mr Raoul Wazenga has specified that this public institution is committed to implementing the firm instructions of the highest authorities, aimed at making this service a key lever for the country’s economic development and a priority for its government. Thus, the National Geological Service has therefore embarked on a process of strengthening the capacities of its staff and managers to respond effectively to technological requirements and legal provisions when processing public procurement files, as well as prospecting and exploration to identify new mineral deposits and assess their potential. It should be noted that the managers and staff of the National Geological Service of Congo (SGN-C) have underwent ten days of intensive training on public procurement, provided by the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (ARMP), during a seminar that ended on Friday in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The end of this session, held from August 4th to 15th, 2025, has been marked by the presentation of certificates to the participants. CPA/Mwawatadi
