Opposition sit-in: Several teachers likely to be heard by the Court of Cassation

Kinshasa, July 14th, 2026 (CPA).- Individuals who have provided accounts of the incidents that took place during the opposition demonstration on June 12th, in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, may be questioned by the public prosecutor’s office, the CPA learnt on Tuesday from judicial sources close to the case.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Court of Cassation may summon them and hear their evidence as part of the investigation opened on the instructions of the Minister of State in charge of Justice.

“Several people may be summoned to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, as was the case with Mr Olengha nkoy, to provide the information in their possession so that the Public Prosecutor’s Office can carry out its work properly,” according to the CPA’s source.

The Congolese authorities had announced the opening of an investigation following the incidents that occurred during the sit-in organized in Kinshasa by the C64, an opposition coalition.

This initiative had been presented by the authorities as “necessary to shed full light on the facts and establish who was responsible for the course of these incidents”.

As part of efforts to monitor the situation, the Minister for Justice, Guillaume Ngefa, had met with the leaders of the political parties concerned. The discussions had focused on the events that had taken place and their immediate consequences.

In a statement released on June 13th, the Minister in charge of Justice confirmed that he had instructed the relevant authorities to carry out all necessary investigations, with the aim of establishing the circumstances surrounding the reported disturbances. CPA/
