President Tshisekedi reassures that justice will be done for victims of aggression in the east

Kinshasa, December 8th, 2025 (CPA) – President Felix Tshisekedi has reassured on Monday that justice will be done in honour of the victims of the Rwandan aggression in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, despite the agreements signed in Washington, during his address on the state of the nation in front of the parliament assembled in congress.

‘Justice will be pursued until the end and without complacency in order to honour the memory of those who have unjustly fallen as a result of this aggression,’ has declared the Head of State. ‘These agreements do not consecrate any form of sharing of our sovereignty. They do not validate anyone’s territorial claims or the selling off of our resources. Nor do they constitute an amnesty for crimes, » he has added. President Tshisekedi has also noted that these agreements cannot be interpreted as a disguised amnesty for crimes committed against our people. ‘We are assuming these agreements as strategic levers in the service of a just and verifiable peace, not as a concession, but as an expression of a firm will to combine the effectiveness of our defence with the power of our diplomatic action,’ he has added. In the field of human rights, he has referred to the international recognition of Genocost, before recalling the Democratic Republic of Congo’s support for the inclusion of the crime of ecocide in international law.  ‘In Goma and in other regions of the country, while intensifying our advocacy for the international recognition of Genocost. In New York, at the 80th United Nations General Assembly, I have reiterated the Democratic Republic of Congo’s support for the inclusion of the crime of ecocide in international law,’ he has said. He has reiterated DRC’s desire to see the massive and deliberate destruction of the environment recognised and punished with the same severity as its consequences for humanity. ‘This position extends our identity as a climate solution country, guardian of the world’s second largest tropical forest and a freshwater reserve of global importance,’ has said President Tshisekedi. At the beginning of his address to the nation, President Tshisekedi has outlined the security situation throughout the country during 2025, which has seen the East of the country plunged into one of the darkest periods in recent decades, following in particular the capture of Goma and Bukavu by the AFC/M23 rebellion, supported by Rwanda. These aggressors have extended their reign of terror over large parts of Nord-Kivu and Sud-Kivu provinces, the Head of State has explained. ‘Face to this aggression, our legitimate response has been military, institutional and diplomatic,’ he has explained.
