Sud-Kivu: Philanthropic Organization Sends Peace Message to Uvira Population

Uvira, February 18th, 2026 (CPA) – A message of peace, compassion, and hope was delivered Wednesday by the founder of a philanthropic organization to the population of Uvira in South Kivu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, on the occasion of Lent and Ramadan, during an interview with CPA. “On the occasion of Lent and Ramadan, we send a message of peace, compassion, and hope to the entire population of Uvira, South Kivu, and our country, the DRC, in general. We do not forget our internally displaced brothers and sisters and those in refugee camps in Burundi and Tanzania,” said Babou Rukengeza Makanda, founder of the Action for Well-being and Responsiveness (ABR) Foundation. He added: “These sacred times call for reflection, forgiveness, and overcoming divisions, reminding everyone that despite our differences, we form a single nation, united by a common destiny.” “At times of trial, we call on everyone to take responsibility: reject hatred, refuse violence, and make the courageous choice of peace. Let us strengthen social cohesion, cultivate solidarity, and protect the unity that is our strength,” he emphasized. “May God, in His infinite mercy, bless Uvira, South Kivu, and our entire nation. May He soothe hearts, protect families, and guide us on the path of lasting peace,” he concluded.
