Uvira, September 8th, 2026 (CPA).- The campaign of depoliticization in schools has been launched on Tuesday by a children’s rights advocate in Luberizi, in the territory of Uvira, in Sud-Kivu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), CPA has learnt from an NGO source. “The campaign of depoliticization of schools aims to call on every community to make schools places of social cohesion and peace. The educational institutions, where teachers and pupils are, par excellence, educational actors, are regarded as spaces of peace, protection and hope,” has declared Guillaume Munguakonkwa, a children’s rights advocate in Luberizi. “Despite the vicissitudes of the multifaceted conflicts unfolding in the Luberizi region, pupils and their teachers must not be drawn into conflicts rooted in political interests,” he has added. “Children and teachers must be spared from violence by reason of their status as civilians. Violence can have significant consequences for the continuity of education and the protection of children. All stakeholders in education must speak out to strengthen security measures around schools; this is essential to enable pupils to attend their schools in safe conditions,” he has continued. DRC government is working actively to secure educational spaces, which it regards as a key priority in guaranteeing children’s right to easy access to education and enabling them to continue their studies normally without hindrance.
