Kalemie, October 5th, 2025 (CPA) – A humanitarian aid from the World Food Programme (WFP) has been given to war-displaced people from Sud and Nord-Kivu, settled in sites in the Katanika district of Kalemie in Tanganyika in the south-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, CPA has noted on Sunday.
‘This second phase of humanitarian aid consists of a direct monetary payment to displaced persons and disaster victims from the Kalendulwa and Kikongo camps, as well as to war-displaced persons from Nord and Sud-Kivu, all of whom have settled in these sites in the Katanika district,’ has explained Pierre Kamahiza Malisawa, burgomaster of Kalemie. He has pointed out that eight thousand (8,000) households are benefiting from this financial assistance and humanitarian aid operation, which, according to him, aims to improve their living conditions in a ‘difficult’ socio-economic context. ‘The amount of aid granted varies according to family composition, in line with the standards set by the WFP’, has said the burgomaster, before explaining the mechanisms used by the WFP to ensure efficient and orderly distribution. ‘We have just received this sum of money thanks to the World Food Programme. This humanitarian aid will enable us to buy school supplies for our children’, has testified Bernadette Ngoy Ilunga, an internally displaced person from the Kalendulwa camp. It should be noted that this second phase of monetary aid is part of the WFP’s on-going efforts to support vulnerable populations. CPA/
