The campaign for national solidarity: a tool for cohesion in DRC (President Tshisekedi)

Kinshasa, August 27th, 2026 (CPA).- President Felix Tshisekedi has declared that the national solidarity campaign launched on Thursday during a ceremony held in the capital, Kinshasa, must become an instrument of cohesion and a protective barrier against tribalism in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). “Solidarity cannot flourish where hatred, discrimination and division take root. This campaign must also become an instrument of national cohesion and a powerful bulwark against tribalism, racism and regionalism,” has said the Congolese Head of State. “Through this initiative, we want to anchor solidarity firmly in our values, our institutions and our behaviour. We want to reawaken that generous spirit that dwells within every Congolese man and woman: the determination never to abandon a fellow citizen in distress,” he has added. For President Tshisekedi, the launching of this campaign is not merely about setting up a mechanism for collecting donations; rather, it marks the beginning of a genuine republican resurgence. He has, to this end, called on all active sectors of Congolese society – particularly young people and users of digital platforms – to take ownership of this initiative and participate more responsibly. “I appeal, in particular, to the Congolese youth – the driving force and hope of our nation – to demonstrate discernment, responsibility and patriotism. I also appeal to all users of digital platforms that they prioritise clear-headedness, restraint and a sense of the national interest,” the Head of State has emphasised. “May this campaign become the cement that binds the north to the south, the east to the west, our towns to our villages, our diaspora to the motherland, and all generations together around a shared ideal of brotherhood,” he has continued.

Furthermore, President Felix Tshisekedi has declared that this solidarity campaign, launched across the entire country, is not a substitute for the State’s constitutional and social responsibilities, nor is it a reflection of any disengagement on the part of the Government.  “It constitutes neither a withdrawal by the government nor a transfer of these obligations onto the population. The State remains and will remain the primary guarantor of social protection, the main provider of humanitarian assistance and the body primarily responsible for the security and well-being of the population,” has said the Congolese President.ACP/
