The Head of the MONUSCO praises DRC’s diplomatic commitment

Kinshasa, April 14^th, 2026 (CPA).- The diplomatic commitment of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has been praised on Tuesday in Kinshasa by the head of the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), during a meeting with the Minister of State in charge of Foreign Affairs.  “I have praised DRC’s diplomatic commitment and the efforts made to strengthen its position on the regional and international stage,” has declared James Swan, Special Representative of the UN General Secretary in DRC and Head of MONUSCO.  Mr Swan has reiterated the MONUSCO’s willingness to work in close collaboration with the Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs and emphasised the importance of maintaining consistency in diplomatic efforts.  “I have also reiterated the MONUSCO’s willingness to work closely with the Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs on all matters of mutual interest, in a spirit of close cooperation, trust and mutual respect. Finally, I have emphasised the importance of ensuring coherence between diplomatic efforts, regional mechanisms and the humanitarian and the security realities on the ground,” he has explained. Prior to this, the Special Representative of the UN General Secretary had spoken of his previous experience in DRC, which had instilled in him a deep respect for the country. “My previous experience in this country has instilled in me a deep respect for DRC, for its people and for the importance of a close cooperation with the national authorities,” he has emphasised.  The American diplomat James Swan, current Special Representative of the UN General Secretary and Head of MONUSCO in DRC, has arrived in Kinshasa on April 7^th, 2026. He succeeds from the Guinean Bintou Keita and has for his main mission the management of the security crisis in eastern DRC.ACP/
