The recognition of an Association of Nutritionists: a step towards strengthening the food supply chain (non-profit organisation)

Kinshasa, April 8th, 2026 (CPA).- The legal recognition of the Association of Nutritionists of Congo (Anuco) following the granting of its legal status has been seen as a  legitimacy to strengthen the food supply chain in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to a statement from the organisation received by CPA on Wednesday. “This official recognition gives Anuco a reinforced legitimacy to act as a key player in the health system and in the food supply chain through its technical arm, the Observatory for the Monitoring and Management of the Food Supply Chain (OSGCA),” it is read in the statement signed by Dr Desire Bombile, national coordinator. According to the source, with this recognition, Anuco becomes the first national platform for nutritionists to obtain legal personality in DRC, thereby consecrating years of commitment, organisation and action on the ground. “Anuco has the honour to inform the national and international public, as well as all institutional and media partners, of the official granting of its legal personality. This legal recognition has been granted by Ministerial Decree No. 071/CAB/ME/MIN/J&GS/ of February 23rd 2026, marking a historic stage in the structuring of the nutrition sector in DRC,” the source has specified. According to the document, this association aims to establish itself as a national organisation, with an effective presence in more than 20 provinces across the country, notably to promote nutritional and food security, supporting public health and nutrition policies, structuring and promoting the profession of nutritionist, building the capacity of sector stakeholders, and implementing nutritional solutions tailored to local realities. ANUCO was created in 2019 with the primary aim of promoting healthy, balanced and safe food to protect the population from nutritional diseases and unsafe food, whilst enhancing the status of the nutritionist profession in DRC.
