Kinshasa, August 23rd, 2026 (CPA).- The establishment of a permanent framework for consultation aiming to strengthen dialogue between the academic world and public authorities has been proposed by the city authorities and the rector of the University of Kinshasa (Unikin) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), according to a press release consulted on Saturday by CPA. “The two parties are therefore considering the establishment of a permanent consultation framework between Unikin and the provincial government, with a view to strengthening dialogue between the academic world and public authorities, further promoting scientific work and transforming research findings into concrete projects and actions for the benefit of Kinshasa,” we have read in the press release from Kinshasa City Hall.
According to the text, this initiative should encourage the emergence of innovative solutions tailored to the capital’s needs, whilst bringing academic expertise closer to the everyday realities of the people of Kinshasa. During a strategic working session, the file has indicated, the rector of Unikin, Jean-Marie Kayembe, has presented his alma mater as a ‘true solution-oriented university’, firmly committed to put its scientific expertise, laboratories and research capabilities at the service of the city and its people.
On August 21st, 2026, the Unikin’s rector, Kayembe, had held talks at the provincial governor’s office with the governor of the city of Kinshasa, Daniel Bumba, at the provincial governor’s office regarding the main challenges facing the Congolese capital, notably sanitation and traffic management, as well as his alma mater’s contribution to finding concrete, sustainable solutions tailored to urban realities.
