Kinshasa, August 10th, 2025 (CPA).- The issuance of the new biometric driving licence has been officially launched on Saturday in Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga province, in the south-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, by the Ministry in charge of Transport, in the presence of the acting governor and the provincial minister in charge of this sector, according to a statement consulted on Sunday by CPA. ‘After Kinshasa and Kongo Central, we are officially launching here in Haut-Katanga the issuance of the new secure biometric driving licence with a chip that complies with international standards,’ has declared Paul Djunga, chief of staff to the Minister in charge of Transport, quoted in the statement.
According to the source, this project demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring safer, more organised transport conditions that comply with international standards, as well as the vision of the President of the Republic, who attaches capital importance to the reform and modernisation of public infrastructure and services.
Mr Djunga has made it clear that a driving licence is not just an administrative document, but a guarantee of road safety, a tool for regulating traffic, and a means of ensuring that only trained and qualified drivers get behind the wheel. ‘The new driving licence is the proof of the competence, responsibility and civic-mindedness of each driver,’ he has added.
The source has reported that the issuance of this licence in a modernised and secure framework represents a major step forward in the efforts to improve road safety, reduce traffic accidents and promote compliance with the Highway Code. The provincial Minister in charge of Transport, Lorraine Lusamba, quoted in the press release, has indicated that this launching marks an important step, not only for the modernisation of transport administration, but also for road safety and compliance with traffic laws. A call has been made to all citizens in this part of the country to comply with the law by registering to obtain the new driving licence. ‘Together we will make our roads safer, more organised and more respectful of the rules,’ she has concluded.
