Kinshasa, August 10th, 2025 (CPA).- The realisation of the Head of State’s vision of food sovereignty and agricultural development has been talked on Sunday by an expert in an interview with CPA at the Ministry in charge of Agriculture in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). ‘We welcome the appointment of Minister Mohindo Nzangi as Minister of State in charge of Agriculture and Food Security. A strategic choice of the Head of State to realise his vision of food sovereignty and inclusive agricultural development,’ has declared the Professor Jean-Robert Nzanza Bombiti, expert in smart agriculture and sustainable development, and former governor of Bas-Uele province.
For the expert, this appointment reflects the Head of State’s willingness to place agriculture at the heart of national economic transformation. ‘This is a decision that reassures the agricultural sector, because we know that this ministry has a direct and significant impact on the well-being of the population. His experience and knowledge of the field in both urban and rural areas are a guarantee of stability and continuity for us,’ he has added.
With this vision in mind, Professor Nzanza Bombiti has identified six (6) major priorities for food sovereignty and agricultural development. These include the national structuring of producers: establishing a comprehensive register of farmers in the 145 territories. The land mapping and diagnosis: understanding the potential of each area in order to guide crops according to fertility and climate. The capacity building: training and equipping a national corps of agricultural extension workers to provide on-going technical support.
The development of certified local seeds to produce and distribute varieties adapted to regional realities. And the modernisation through technology by integrating digital tools and artificial intelligence to optimise production, planning and resilience to hazards, and finally the enhancement of value chains and international compliance to ensure traceability and meet standards such as the « EUDR » regulation to secure and develop exports.
Furthermore, Prof. Nzanza has concluded by reiterating his willingness to support this transformation: ‘I am ready to put my experience, scientific skills and expertise in innovation at the service of Minister Mohindo Nzangi and the Head of State, so that agriculture can become the driving force of development and national sovereignty’. The ordinary Professor and expert agricultural engineer Jean-Robert Nzanza Bombiti has been elected governor of Bas Uele province.
He has climbed various rungs of the ladder in the fields of science and sustainable development, notably with a postgraduate degree in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Texas in the USA, Director of Sustainability at a major mining company in Africa, Doctor of Agricultural Engineering, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Management. He has been successively Principal Consultant for a consulting firm specialising in sustainability, the environment, corporate social responsibility and agricultural development in South Africa. The advanced knowledge of agricultural science has earned him the positions of Director of Research and Development in Agricultural Engineering, Regional Manager and Consultant in Crop Production in South Africa.
