Tshikapa, July 9th, 2026 (CPA).- The price of a litre of petrol has fallen by 20 per cent at informal retailers, commonly known as ‘Kadhafi’, in the town of Tshikapa, the provincial chief town of Kasaï (in the centre of the Democratic Republic of Congo), falling from FC 4,000 to FC 3,200, as CPA observed on Thursday during a brief investigation. “The price of a litre of petrol has fallen among informal ‘Kadhafi’ retailers in the town of Tshikapa over the past 48 hours. Whilst it had suddenly risen to FC 4,000, it is now selling for FC 3,200.
“This price drop is having a positive impact on the daily lives of public transport users across the city,” has said John, a motorbike taxi driver. According to the same source, this drop is due to the market being regularly supplied with sufficient quantities of this petroleum product.
A large proportion comes from the Republic of Angola, via the Kandjaji border post linking the province of Kasai with that of Lunda-Norte. The current market price per litre is the same as that charged at the three petrol stations in the town of Tshikapa.
