Kisangani, September 18th, 2025 (CPA).- The chief doctors from the health zone of Tshopo province in the north-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo have signed a commitment agreement on Wednesday to improve vaccination coverage, during a ceremony presided over by the interim governor Didier Lomoyo, CPA has noted.
« We were really at the bottom of the list, among the last five provinces. Yet the central and provincial governments regularly provide health zones with logistical resources. I would not want vaccination activities to fail because of cupidity. The medical profession is a noble one: to help our children get vaccinated and to increase vaccination coverage, » has declared Mr Didier Lomoyo Iteku, interim governor of Tshopo. For their part, the chief medical officers in the area have acknowledged the weaknesses and are committed to significantly improve the indicators by the end of the year.
They have also promised to increase vaccination sessions and strengthen local coordination. ‘We are committed to increase the rate of formative supervision from 10% to over 30% and vaccine availability from 63% to over 90%. We will ensure that the recovery rate for under-vaccinated children rises to over 95%, while limiting our travel outside our areas of responsibility,’ has specified Dr Votshu Bernard, reaffirming their determination to raise Tshopo’s ranking.
According to health sources, these commitments are an important step towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals related to health, particularly SDG 3, and should enable the province to gradually emerge from the red zone in terms of childhood vaccination, the source has concluded.
