Kisangani, May 10th, 2026 (CPA). – The Red Cross first aid volunteers in Kisangani, the main city of Tshopo province in the north-east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), has carried out on Saturday a voluntary blood donation drive as part of the activities to mark World Humanitarian Day. “We are Red Cross first aid volunteers working to alleviate the suffering of the most vulnerable. Many people die due to a lack of blood. So, together with the provincial Red Cross authorities, we have thought that we could donate blood free of charge to our brothers and sisters who need it,” has declared Patience Singili, provincial secretary of DRC/Tshopo Red Cross. The provincial blood transfusion centre has deployed its teams to the provincial Red Cross office to ensure the success of this voluntary blood donation campaign. “Many first-aid volunteers have enthusiastically donated blood to replenish the blood bank,” he has said. The voluntary blood donation is one of the activities planned for Red Cross Week, marking the 163rd World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, celebrated on May 8th of each year. ACP/
