Kisangani, October 29th, 2025 (CPA). – The relaunch of the Kapalata police training school in Kisangani, in the province of Tshopo in the north-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been the subject of discussions between a police official and the interim governor of the province, CPA has reported on Wednesday.
‘We have come to report to the provincial authorities on the reopening of the recently renovated Kapalata training school. This institution is ready to resume its activities to strengthen the capacities of our recruits,’ has said General Vital Awashango, general director of Schools and Training for the Congolese National Police. Accompanied by Divisional Commissioner Sylvano Kasongo, national coordinator of the PNC reform unit, and PNC Tshopo Divisional Commissioner Elvis Palanga Nawej, the Director General indicated that this initiative is part of the follow-up to the guidelines issued by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in charge of the Interior after the official inauguration of the site on June 24th.
‘As director of PNC schools and training, I couldn’t come to Kisangani without visiting Kapalata and getting a feel for the situation on the ground. The school must become a centre of excellence for the entire eastern part of the country,’ he has added. According to the same source, Acting Governor Didier Lomoyo welcomed this initiative, while reiterating the provincial government’s commitment to supporting the relaunch of this strategic school. He also called for improvements in the training and accommodation conditions for recruits.
‘The reaction of the interim provincial authority has been very positive. His concerns will be passed on to the hierarchy for sustainable solutions,’ reassured Divisional Commissioner Awashango. The rehabilitation and upcoming reopening of the Kapalata police academy marks a decisive step in the professionalization of the PNC in Tshopo, with the ambition of making it a centre of excellence for training, discipline and modernisation of law enforcement in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
