Kinshasa, July 6th, 2026 (CPA). – The vision of the Congolese Society of Nursing Sciences (SOCSI) was presented to the Director of Nursing at the Renaissance University Hospital Center (CHUR) during a meeting organized for that purpose on Monday in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. « During this meeting, SOCSI officials presented to us the vision of this learned society and its project. We observed a gap between their presentation and the realities in the field. SOCSI provides additional motivation for nursing practice, because there is a considerable gap between the theory taught at university and practice in the field. It is commendable and encouraging to see a group of nurses reflecting on how to reduce this gap between theory and practice, » said Guy Diankeyila, Director of Nursing at CHUR. « It is commendable and encouraging to see a group of nurses reflecting on how to reduce this gap between theory and practice. This exchange brought together a representative sample of the profession’s elite and leadership, including directors, deputy directors, division heads, and chief coordinators, » he added. According to Mr. Diankeyila, who is also the national president of nursing directors in the DRC, the explanations provided made it possible to schedule, for next August, a major presentation and awareness day aimed at encouraging more than 200 nurses to join SOCSI. For her part, Mrs. Ruth Claudine Tshiama, Vice-President of SOCSI, indicated that the meeting also sought to present the image of SOCSI, a society established to integrate the three fields of nursing sciences, namely research, practice, and training. « We thought it was important to meet the Director of Nursing of the DRC in order to present our integrative vision and seek the support of nurses for the emergence of SOCSI. This is part of the campaign entitled 1Hour with SOCSI, which begins with contact and exchanges with nursing managers in public institutions, awareness-raising, and the recruitment of nurses into SOCSI, » she said. A new era for the nursing profession is emerging, she continued, calling on all Congolese nurses to think big, enhance the value of their profession, and above all strive for excellence. Officially launched in May in Kinshasa, SOCSI aims to empower nurses by moving away from the perception of being merely executants and becoming actors capable of contributing effectively to the DRC’s health system.
