Mbuji-Mayi, July 6th, 2026 (CPA). – Eastern Kasai Province, in central Democratic Republic of Congo, is undergoing an « unprecedented transformation » thanks to the modernization of its infrastructure, the Head of the President’s Civil Household said during an inspection mission to the Bipemba Airport terminal in Mbuji-Mayi. « I must admit that remarkable work is being carried out. Overall, construction works on the Bipemba Airport terminal have now been completed at more than 85 percent. The basic infrastructure of Eastern Kasai Province is undergoing an unprecedented transformation, » said Dr. Bruno Miteyo Nyenge, Head of the President’s Civil Household.
« The Bipemba Airport project aims to make this facility one of the best in the country by meeting international standards and turning it into a future regional and international hub. The works include extending the runway to 3,000 meters and constructing a new apron capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft such as the Airbus A340 and the Boeing 777, » he added. Dr. Miteyo also praised the construction of a new control tower and a modern fire station designed to enhance the safety of both residents and aircraft. « I highly commend the new 28-metre control tower, a true masterpiece equipped with a hybrid solar and wind-powered electrical system capable of ensuring 72 hours of autonomous operation. A fire station capable of housing six to seven emergency response vehicles completes this safety infrastructure. The State has a duty to protect both the population and aircraft in order to enhance the country’s credibility, as socio-economic development and tourism depend on it, » he explained. According to Bruno Miteyo, the successful implementation of these projects has profoundly changed the mindset of Mbuji-Mayi residents, who now praise the city’s improved cleanliness and the paving of secondary roads.
« Mbuji-Mayi has changed for the better. I have not met a single person saying otherwise. Everyone is speaking with one voice. On the ground, no one disputes what Félix Tshisekedi has achieved. People simply say: this is what he has done for us, » he said.
