Kinshasa, October 1st, 2025 (CPA).- Nine (9) forecasters working at the National Agency for Meteorology and Satellite Remote Sensing (Mettelsat) in the Democratic Republic of Congo have been trained on Wednesday during a workshop on how to use digital forecasting products and produce short- and medium-term bulletins. ‘The mastering modern tools and techniques is essential to improve the quality of weather forecasts,’ has declared Thierry Lefort, an expert in weather monitoring and forecasting at Meteo France. According to him, this training represents a unique opportunity to strengthen the capacities of forecasters in a context where the weather plays a crucial role in risk management. ‘These tools must be at the service of users to ensure accurate and reliable forecasts. And it is useful for technicians to be able to handle the machines well for effective forecasting,’ he has added. According to this expert, the performance of those who have been trained will have a direct impact on the safety and well-being of the populations. Mettelsat General Director Joseph Itela has expressed his desire to see technicians become more efficient. ‘This training aims to instil a culture of discipline and shared responsibility. Our goal is to contribute to the development of a reliable early warning system that incorporates best practices in forecasting,’ he has said. ‘Together, we can build a future where weather forecasts are not only accurate, but also integrated into decision-making at all levels,’ has concluded the weather monitoring and forecasting expert working for Meteo France.
