Women’s empowerment in DRC: knowing one’s rights, the first step towards freedom (a magazine)

Kinshasa, July 13th, 20226 (CPA).- The knowledge of one’s rights has been presented as the first step towards freedom and the empowerment of women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), according to an editorial in the magazine “Le coup de gueule de la femme” (The woman’s outcry), received on Monday by CPA.  “It is important to inform, to sensitize and to inspire women, because knowing one’s rights is the first step towards freedom, empowerment and fulfilment,” has declared Kikina Mungul Diaka, editor of the magazine “Le coup de gueule de la femme”. She has explained that education and information remain the best tools for tackling inequalities and asserting women’s rightful place in society. “In a country like ours, where many Congolese women remain marginalised due to the weight of tradition and a lack of public awareness of the law, women can no longer ignore their rights. On the contrary, they must be aware of them so that they can better assert them,” has said Ms Mungul Diaka. “In DRC, there are several fundamental laws guaranteeing equality and protecting women,” she has added, lamenting the failure to enforce these laws, which, in her view, remains a major challenge.ACP/
