Bunia, April 21nd, 2021 (CPA).– The prices of most foodstuffs and basic necessities are revised upwards in Bunia, capital of Ituri province, CPA noted.
By way of illustration, a 20 liters can of vegetable oil is currently trading at USD 32 against USD 26; a bag of semolina flour went from USD 14 to USD 18; a bag of potato, from FC 150,000 to FC 220,000 recently; a sack of charcoal has gone from FC 35,000 to FC 60,000; a bunch of cassava leaves that sold for FC 1,500, is currently trading at FC 2,500; a basin of cassava cosettes which cost FC 6,000, currently costs FC 12,000; a liter of fuel went from FC 2,000, to FC 4,000, from dealers commonly known as « Gaddafi ».
Most of the traders interviewed by CPA attribute this rise in prices to the activism of armed groups which continue to disrupt traffic on the National Road no4 (RN4), through which Bunia city is supplied with products from consumption and various other products.
For the moment, say the same interviewees, arrangements are being made to dislodge these criminals on the access roads leading to Bunia city. Mixed patrols, Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and MONUSCO on the two roads of national interest and on RN 27 where several vehicles and trucks were blocked towards the territory of Mahagi, are organized.
