Signature of a financing agreement between the DRC and France on the health system of the city of Goma

Kinshasa, June 19th, 2021 (CPA).- The Minister of Finance, Nicolas Kazadi and the Ambassador of France accredited to the DRC François Pujolas, signed a financing agreement for an amount of 9 million euros intended to strengthen the health system in the city of Goma, according to a statement from the said ministry received Friday at the CPA.

According to the source, this amount, whose equivalent in US dollars is 10.8 million USD, is also intended to cover the primary and secondary health system in the health zones of Karisimbi and Nyiragongo, in the center and on the outskirts of the city of Goma, in North Kivu.

The source specifies that this financing project will be implemented through the French Development Agency (AFD) and will contribute to the sanitation of the roads and the maintenance of multiple equipment and infrastructures that are essential, but dilapidated following the eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano and the seismic activity that followed.

French Ambassador to the DRC François Pujolas, who answered questions from the press, said that this agreement, valued at 9 million euros, is the result of the best diplomatic cooperation, including Head of State Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo. He demonstrated this during his meeting at the Élysée (Paris) with President Macron in 2019 through the signing of a Franco-Congolese roadmap to fight Ebola and other epidemics.

The Minister of Finance Nicolas Kazadi for his part noted that the said agreement relates to pillar number 11 of the government program, which promotes the strengthening of healthcare financing structures in the province of North Kivu. The said project, underlines the Minister of Finance, also aims to improve its resilience in the face of epidemic shocks in the health zone of Karisimbi and Nyirangongo, peri-urban areas of Goma.

The project owner being the Ministry of Health, the latter will entrust the responsibility for the execution of the tasks to a delegated project owner who will be recruited on the basis of an international call for tenders in full transparency for professional implementation

In this perspective, the project will implement the guidelines of the national health development program and will effectively contribute to improving the quality and permanent availability of health care services at the first two levels of the health pyramid (health centers and hospitals). reference). This funding also takes into account the local workforce whose « capacity building » is required for appropriate care in the standard of universal health. ACP/
