Visit of Minister Mwenze Mukaleng to the Regideso and Snel facilities in the south-west of Kinshasa

Kinshasa, June 19th, 2021 (CPA).- The Minister of Water Resources and Electricity, Olivier Mwenze Mukaleng, made his first visit to the facilities of Regideso and the National Electricity Company (SNEL), located to the southwest of Kinshasa, said the communication cell of the said ministry on Friday.

At the REGIDESO station located in the Mitendi district, in the municipality of Mont-Ngafula, Minister Mwenze became familiar with the functioning and the difficulties of this society. The director of operations of this department, Mr. Franck Kimpemba, suggested that they are linked to population growth and the dilapidated nature of the hydraulic power plant installed since 1975 with a capacity of 500,000 m3 against expressed needs of 1,500. 000 (one million five hundred) m3. « Since Regideso has acquired new equipment within the framework of the President of the Republic’s hundred days program, it can meet the current needs of this population », declared Mr. Franck Kimpemba.

After Regideso, Minister Mwenze visited three SNEL sites, namely the Mitendi, Badiadingi and UPN sites.

On this occasion, the director general of SNEL, Jean Bosco Kayombo Kayan, explained to him the problem of the electricity supply in this part, stressing that it is linked to the absence of urbanization upstream of the districts of a on the one hand, and the demographic rise of the population on the other.

However, he reassured the minister that his company is working to set up new stations as well as the strengthening of existing stations, to better serve the population of the southwestern part of the capital and the city of Kasangulu, in the Kongo Central province. ACP/
