Presentation to the UCC of the « mixtures » in honor of the emeritus professors Abbots Ndumba and Akenda

Kinshasa, June 6th, 2021 (CPA).- The Catholic University of Congo (UCC) presented, on Saturday at the site of the municipality of Limete, “Mixtures” in honor of emeritus professors abbots Georges Ndumba and Jean-Chrysostome Akenda for numerous and loyal services rendered to the university, to the Catholic Church and to society.

The Rector of the UCC, Father Pr. Léonard Santedi, praised the laudatory career of these two emeritus professors, eminent and brilliant philosophers.

« We celebrate the solid and robust work accomplished by these two talented teachers and pedagogues, we pay a vibrant, living and invigorating tribute to our two masters in science and humanity Georges Ndumba and Jean-Chrysostome Akenda », indicated Pr. Santedi.

These two professors, he underlined, kept the flame of excellence of the UCC Faculty of Philosophy alive, producing landmark works in philosophy of language, hermeneutics, philosophy of science and philosophy. and culture, by training the new generation of philosophers who have taken over today.

They are, according to him, heirs of the rich tradition of the philosophical school of Kinshasa sown by the great works of Aj Smet, Tshiamalenga Ntumba, Issiaka Prosper Laleye, Kombe, Oleko, Mvumbi Tsasa, Ngimbi Nseka, Théodore Mudiji, Crispin Ngwey and others.

By reading the two books dedicated to them, Rector Santedi said he discovered that the link between the two emeritus professors is found in culture, namely: hermeneutical language and culture for Prof. Ndumba and science and culture for Prof. Akenda.

These mixtures retrace the main ideas of these two philosophers

According to the dean of the philosophy faculty of the UCC, Prof. Célestin Dimandja, the presentation of the mixtures offered to these two former professors of the faculty admitted to the emeritus, retrace the main ideas and the major themes that characterized and marked out their academic careers and fields of research.

To immortalize the service they have rendered to the Church and to society as a whole, he said, the Faculty of Philosophy has dedicated them to mixtures on the favorite themes of their research.

The mixtures offered to Pr. Abbé Georges Ndumba focus on the theme: « Language, hermeneutics and culture ». « They bring together texts that clearly address areas dear to the professor who cared in his teachings and writings, » he said.

The volume devoted to Pr. Abbot Jean-Chrysostome Akenda highlights, said the dean of the faculty of philosophy, the relationship between science and culture. « We discover the impact of science on the lifestyles of societies, » he said.

Start of communication philosophies, environment at UCC

Thanks to the involvement of these two emeritus professors, the Faculty of Philosophy of the UCC starts next academic year, with the fields of communication philosophies, bioethics, law and politics as well as the philosophy of environment.

These courses are part of the efforts to modernize the faculty in view of the challenges of the day.

The vice-president of the Board of Directors of the UCC, Bishop Marcel Madila, Metropolitan Archbishop of Kananga and honorary professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, for his part praised the services rendered by these two professors to the Church and to society, asking them to continue these efforts while they are still alive, before saying blessings to them.

He highlighted numerous doctoral thesis works, second and third cycle dissertations directed by these two emeritus professors.

Testimonies and praise have been given by other leading academics and scientists at UCC.

These two professors are authors of several scientific publications, and have assumed several academic, ecclesiastical and administrative functions. ACP/
