The European Union reiterates its support for the DRC’s security and army forces

Kinshasa, June 5th, 2021 (CPA).– The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister in charge of the Interior, Security, Decentralization and Customary Affairs, Lawyer Daniel Aselo, discussed Thursday, in his office, with the ambassador of the European Union (EU) to the DRC, Jean-Marc Châtaignier. These very significant exchanges focused on the European Union’s support for the reform of the Congolese national police as well as the armed forces of the DRC, through support which will make it possible to strengthen the professionalization of the police, by establishing the foundations the establishment of a civilian, impartial police force at the service of the population. According to Jean-Marc Chataignier, his organization has for several years committed funds to support the Congolese national police and he reassured that this support will continue. In addition, he mentioned in passing that among the achievements on the ground in the DRC of the EU, it is worth mentioning in particular the construction of the Police Academy which he hopes to soon be able to inaugurate. « Together with the number one in security, we raised the issue related to the measures to be taken to proceed with the inauguration of this Police Academy and also to support the reform of the police in some provinces of the DRC » , continued, moreover, the ambassador of the EU who confirmed that this support, the third to the national police force, is long-term and will target a few provinces. After this first meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Interior, Jean-Marc Châtaigner said he was satisfied with the spirit of collaboration of the new head of national security. Lawyer Daniel Aselo Okito Wa Koy very favorably welcomed the prospects of this cooperation which continues between the two institutions, to achieve concrete results in this support to the Congolese police, before reassuring the ambassador of the permanent and unfailing support of the government of the Republic.
