Visit of Prime Minister Sama Lukonde to the facilities of the Goma Volcanological Observatory

Goma, June 6th, 2021 (CPA).- Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge, visited the facilities of the Goma Volcanological Observatory (OVG) on Saturday to ensure the proper functioning of this monitoring of seismic activities.

The OVG’s mission is to follow the evolution of the behavior of volcanoes and seismic movements in the region and to prevent disasters.

The Director General and several experts from the OVG made presentations to explain to the Head of Government how this Center currently operates, the materials used and the difficulties that arise in particular in the face of a population that does not respect the instructions given. during a disaster.

Accompanied by members of the Government as well as national deputies elected from Goma, the Prime Minister reassured the officials of the OVG that the Government will take all measures to resolve all issues related to the proper functioning of this very important center for the province.

The Minister of Scientific Research and Technological Innovation, José Mpanda, also part of the delegation, acknowledged that it is for the first time that a Prime Minister has visited the facilities of the OVG, such an important center for the survival of the city of Goma and its outskirts given the permanent risk of volcanic eruptions.
