Kongo Central: an elephant causes damage in Mayombe

Lukula, June 12th, 2021 (CPA).- A large elephant caused significant human and material damage to the village of Nsese located in the same territory, one of the administrative entities of the province of central Kongo, told the CPA on Thursday of the services of the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation (ICCN) in Lukula.

According to the peasants of this village where the animal has found refuge thanks to local plantations, this pachyderm has devastated fields in several villages upstream, before taking up residence in the forest of Mateya.

« It continues to devastate our fields of plantains, cassava, potatoes, pineapples, peanuts and others, we will risk losing everything and starving if the competent authorities do not control it so soon », they declared, regretting a teenager killed on the way of this animal in the agglomeration of Kiniati.

The vice-governor of the province of Kongo Central, Justin Luemba Makoso who stayed in the Nsese village, alerted by this situation, recommended the village population to protect themselves from this wandering wild animal until the ICCN puts it Out of state of causing trouble.

Accompanied by ICCN technicians on the instruction of the provincial governor on mission, He provided financial assistance from the provincial government to the victims interned in a local health post as well as to the parents of the teenager crushed by the ‘animal. ACP/
