Kinshasa, Auust 10th, 2025 (CPA).- The promotion of maize cultivation, from production to consumption and marketing, has been recommended to entrepreneurs on Sunday during a meeting with an expert in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). ‘A large part of our country’s population still relies on maize as a staple food, and even as feed for large and small livestock, which presents an opportunity for entrepreneurs to generate income,’ has declared Bienfait Kalinga, an expert in community development.
For M, Kalinga, maize sold as seed, processed into products, or as flour has never suffered losses, as it is one of the main food staples. According to him, this 90- to 120-day crop can yield four to five tonnes, depending on the type of improved variety. Among the cultivation techniques recommended to agricultural entrepreneurs, we must always take into account the combination of maize with other crops because of its profitability per hectare and financial returns, he has added.
As for the conditions required to grow this crop, we must consider a good temperature, rainfall varying between 600 and 1,200 mm of well-distributed rain, light, rich and well-drained soil, and a hydrogen potential (pH) varying between 5.5 and 7, he has concluded.
