Appreciation of the Congolese franc: the key players urged to consolidate the dynamic

Kinshasa, October 5th, 2025 (CPA). – The consolidation of the positive dynamic observed in the efforts to appreciate the national currency has been recommended by the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the government and the Central Bank of Congo (BCC), at the 61st Council of Ministers held on Friday, CPA has learnt on Saturday.

The government and the Central Bank will have to act in a concerted manner to reduce speculative practices, harmonise the operation of the foreign exchange market and consolidate the positive dynamic observed’, has declared Felix Tshisekedi, President of the Republic, quoted in the government’s minutes. « The President of the Republic has however, insisted on the need to go further: ‘The fiscal policy must remain rigorous and compatible with the objective of stabilisation, by limiting the inflationary pressures and drastically reducing the risks of depreciation; an innovative and structured approach is required in the conduct of economic policies, in order to stimulate domestic demand », it is read. The government and the central bank have been congratulated by the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on the convincing and significant results achieved on the foreign exchange market, concerning the performance of the Congolese franc against the US dollar. In fact, it has been noted, in recent weeks in the interbank market, an appreciation of 9.1% since September 19th, 2025. These advances are a tangible sign of the coordinated and constant efforts being made to implement monetary and budgetary policies. This positive development is the result of a combination of proactive measures and favourable cyclical factors, the source has reported. The document has singled out in particular the increased demand for domestic currency by banks to build up their reserves; the cash drain by the Treasury in respect of tax payments; and the targeted and measured interventions by the Central Bank on the foreign exchange market through the sale of foreign currencies. ‘These achievements show that, when conducted with discipline and consistency, our economic policies can produce tangible results and boost the confidence of operators and citizens alike’, has concluded the President Tshisekedi, quoted in the minutes.
