Kinshasa, November 6th, 2025 (CPA) – Cameroon’s president has called on Thursday for a return to order and peace in his country during his investiture in Yaounde for a new term of office, the international media have written. « I appeal to everyone’s sense of responsibility. Cameroon does not need a post-electoral crisis with potentially dramatic consequences. I can assure you that order and peace will reign », has declared Paul Biya, President of Cameroon. President Paul Biya, taking the helm of Cameroon for the eighth time, has been widely applauded in the hemicycle of the National Assembly, before congratulating the professionalism of the Cameroonian Defence and Security Forces. He has made announcements about projects for young people and women for this new seven-year term, and renewed his call for the demobilisation of armed groups in the English-speaking regions and the Far North. ‘I will spare no effort to continue to be worthy of this trust’, he has added. According to the source, the President of Cameroon has been declared the winner of the presidential election of October 12th with 53.66% of the votes according to the official results published by the Constitutional Council. For his part, the opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary has rejected the results and hailed the success of the ‘city of death’ day, repeatedly calling on his supporters to defend what he considers to be his victory. « The Cameroonian people are in a position to question everything that is wrong. Nearly a hundred of our children have fallen on the field of honour so that we can regain our freedom », he has said. ‘There are now two presidents, the president elected by the Cameroonian people, which I am, and the president appointed by the Constitutional Council, which you know’, he has indicated. The Cameroonian government has also acknowledged the “loss of human life” during the demonstrations, without giving any figures or details of dates or places. It has announced its intention to take legal action against the opponent, denouncing in particular his ‘repeated calls for insurrection’. In power for 43 years, Paul Biya’s re-election on October 12th has plunged the country into a climate of political tension. Sporadic and limited demonstrations have been put down in blood after the announcement of October 27th, 2025. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has also called for an investigation.
