Kinshasa, September 8th, 2026 (CPA). –The Minister in charge of Sport and Leisure of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mr Didier Budimbu, has announced on Tuesday, in a press interview, that talks were continuing with his counterpart from the Republic of the Congo regarding the feasibility of a joint application to host the 38th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2032). “Talks are on-going between the Republic of the Congo and DRC because the two Ministers in charge of Sport have received the endorsement of their respective Presidents, the Heads of State. They are therefore continuing to work together to assess the feasibility of submitting a joint application to host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations,” has declared Olga Masangu, a member of the Minister’s communications team. The two neighbouring countries, whose capitals are the closest apart in the world, have always dreamt of hosting the Africa Cup of Nations together. Several attempts have been announced over the years, but none have ever come to fruition. It is hoped that this time, with the determination of the nation’s foremost sportsman, President Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi, this project spearheaded by his Minister in charge of Sport, Didier Budimbu, will go through to the end. It is since July 3rd, 2026 that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched a call for applications to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2028, 2032 and 2038.
