Kinshasa, September 8th, 2026 (CPA). – The price of a tray of eggs has risen by 12% on the markets of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), rising from FC 13,000 to FC 14,500 between August 3rd and September 7th, 2026, CPA has noticed on Tuesday during a market tour. “At the moment, we’re selling a tray of eggs for FC 14,500, but at the start of August, a tray was FC 13,000. So there’s been a slight increase in the Kinshasa markets,” has declared Barthelemy Wanzambi, an egg seller at Kapela market in the municipality of Kalamu. “In fact, we sell two types of eggs. There are small eggs that sometimes sell for FC 13,500, whereas they used to be FC 12,800 or even FC 12,500, and the larger ones mentioned above,” he has added. He has explained that this rise is due to the scarcity of eggs in the markets and the high cost of transport from Angola to DRC. “The eggs we sell come from Angola. But before they arrive here in Kinshasa, the journey is difficult and the taxes are too high, which means the price per tray goes up,” he has explained. For her part, Marie Ngalula, an egg seller in the municipality of N’sele, has specified that a carton of 12 trays of Daipn-brand eggs had also risen in price, from FC 164,000 to FC 175,000. “Our egg trays sell for between FC 14,000 and FC 15,000. Prices have gone up because eggs have become scarce on the market and we’re finding it very difficult to source them,” she has explained.
