Kinshasa, September 30th, 2026 (CPA).-The Chinese President has expressed on Wednesday his determination to combat forces advocating Taiwanese independence as well as external interference in the island’s affairs, reaffirming the goal of reunifying the two parts of the country on the eve of the national holiday, according to international media reports.
“We must deepen exchanges and cooperation between the two sides of the Strait, resolutely crack down on separatist forces advocating Taiwanese independence, oppose interference by external forces, promote the peaceful development of relations between the two sides, and promote the great cause of national reunification,” has declared Xi Jinping, President of China. “The Communist China regards Taiwan, under its democratic government, as an inalienable part of Chinese territory, and reunification as non-negotiable and inevitable, even if it means using force,” he has added. According to him, Beijing regards the Taiwanese leader Lai Ching-te, a fervent defender of the island’s sovereignty, as a “separatist”, “a crisis-maker and a warmonger”.
Xi calls on the US to oppose Taiwan’s independence
President Xi has asked his counterpart Donald Trump during a State visit last week to handle the Taiwan issue “with caution”. He has openly called on the United States to “oppose” Taiwan’s independence and to move away from its historic position of not to support it. Furthermore, Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States was aimed at maintaining the atmosphere of détente between the two powers, following months of trade war in 2025 and despite persistent differences and rivalry. Xi Jinping has affirmed on Wednesday the need to bring “greater certainty and positive energy to a world marked by change and turbulence”.
