Ebola in Nia-Nia: 313 confirmed cases, including 209 deaths and 88 recoveries

Nia-Nia, September 30th, 2026 (CPA). – The epidemiological situation regarding Ebola virus disease (EVD) in the Nia-Nia health zone, located in the Mambasa territory of North-East Ituri province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has recorded a cumulative total of 313 confirmed cases, including 209 deaths and 88 recoveries, the hospital’s chief medical officer has indicated on Wednesday to CPA.

“The epidemiological situation in the Nia-Nia health zone remains alarming, as the curve continues to rise, with a cumulative total of 313 confirmed cases, including 209 deaths and 88 recoveries,” has declared Dr Joseph Pemanakue, chief medical officer of the Nia-Nia health zone. “Four health areas are currently considered to be in the midst of an epidemic, namely Juhudi, Bafwabango, Bafwambaya and Alimasi, located in the centre of Nia-Nia,” he has added. Dr Pemanakue has suggested that the Juhudi health area continues to record the highest number of new cases, followed by Bafwabango. The continuing occurrence of deaths in the community is also a concern for health officials. “Whenever we send a Red Cross team to carry out post-mortem examinations, the results are always positive. That is the fear we have had all along,” he has emphasized.
