Cycling in DRC: Didier Budimbu encourages cyclist Miguel Masaisai on his way to Morocco

Kinshasa, Sept. 3rd, 2026 (CPA).- The Minister in charge of Sport of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Didier Budimbu, has, in Kinshasa, the country’s capital, encouraged the international cyclist, Miguel Masaisai, in Kinshasa, the country’s capital, as he embarks on his continental tour dubbed ‘Pedals for Peace’, which involves the challenge of cycling 14,000 kilometres across Africa, starting from Goma in Nord-Kivu, in the east of the country, CPA has learnt from the ministry’s social media pages.

“This Wednesday, September 2nd, the Congolese cyclist (Miguel Masaisai) has been received by the Minister in charge of Sport and Leisure, Didier Budimbu, who has encouraged him before he starts the second phase of his journey, which will begin in Kinshasa and end in Morocco,” it is read.  According to the sources consulted on Thursday by CPA, the number one of DRC central government’s Ministry in charge of Sport, who was delighted by this international cyclist’s initiative, has promised to provide administrative support for the project.

“Minister Didier Budimbu has said he was proud of and admiring of the initiative taken by this worthy son of the nation; the head of sport has first attended to the logistical details of the journey, notably security and obtaining visas; he has then promised to support the Congolese cyclist right to the end of his 14,000 km journey, which he hopes to have entered into the Guinness World Records,” the report has indicated.  As a reminder, the international cyclist Miguel Masaisai has set himself the challenge of cycling across Africa, following a clearly defined route that began in Goma, in DRC, and will end in Morocco, passing through around fifteen countries on the continent. Having set off from Goma to reach Kinshasa, this cyclist has already covered nearly half of his total journey, estimated at 14,000 kilometres, with a single message on his lips: peace in DRC.

Through his ‘Pedals for Peace’ project, it has been reported that Miguel Masaisai has demonstrated that the challenge he is undertaking goes beyond an individual feat to become a symbol of a people united behind a common cause. As a reminder, the cyclist Miguel Masaisai, who is in the spotlight today, has arrived in Kinshasa at the beginning of last August, after a 65-day journey across DRC by bicycle, as part of his ‘Pedals for Peace’ initiative, aimed to promote peace and national unity. CPA/
