DRC: « After 30 years of conflict, it is time for territorial integrity to be respected »

Kinshasa, July 14th, 2025 (CPA).- « Thirty years of conflict later, it is truly time for the suffering to end and for sovereignty and territorial integrity to be respected, » the U.S. Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo said Monday in an interview with an international media outlet. « After thirty years of conflict, it is truly time for the suffering to end and for Congolese sovereignty and territorial integrity to be respected. This is why the United States insisted that this peace agreement include a timeline and a plan of witnesses, » said U.S. Ambassador Lucy Tamlyn. She stated that the process of implementing the Washington peace agreement has indeed begun, with the creation of the Joint Security Mechanism, which coordinates the neutralization of the FDLR and the gradual withdrawal of Rwandan troops from Congolese soil. Furthermore, another agreement is being drafted in Doha, Qatar, between the DRC and the rebels of the « AFC/M23 » coalition. Discussions between the two parties, which began last May, are continuing in the presence of the Congolese and Rwandan interior ministers, according to several sources.
