Kinshasa, July 22nd, 2026 (CPA). – The reduction in the Central Bank of Congo’s (BCC) key interest rate benefits consumers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) by promoting price stability for basic necessities and facilitating access to credit for economic operators, a consumer rights advocate said Tuesday in Kinshasa.
“The BCC’s cut in the key interest rate is beneficial for consumers in the DRC. Consumers will benefit from greater price stability for essential goods,” has said Patrice Musoko, president of the Association of Consumers of Food Products (Ascovi).
According to Mr. Musoko, consumers will now be able to better manage their daily budgets thanks to this decision by the BCC.
“The policy rate is a macroeconomic indicator capable of stabilizing a difficult economic situation and stimulating economic growth for the benefit of economic operators and consumers,” he explained.
Benefits for Economic Activities and Businesses
Thanks to this reduction in the BCC’s key interest rate, economic operators and private entrepreneurs will be able to access loans at more reasonable rates from commercial banks and non-bank financial institutions. “This measure will also facilitate economic and financial transactions, while limiting the risks of speculation,” said Mr. Musoko.
The main objectives of this cut in the policy rate include encouraging economic operators and consumers to prioritize transactions in Congolese francs, boosting economic growth to 4.8% over the course of the year, and mitigating the effects of international economic shocks on the DRC’s economy. Finally, this decision should promote the gradual de-dollarization of the national economy, as desired by the BCC, while helping to stabilize the purchasing power of consumers.ACP/
