DRC: Carpentry, a sector that contributes to the survival of families

Kinshasa, July 22nd, 2025 (CPA) – Carpentry was presented on Tuesday in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), by an entrepreneur as a sector that contributes to the survival of families and economic development, during an interview.

‘The carpentry sector provides for families’ needs while contributing to the beautification of homes, schools, offices, commercial establishments and public infrastructure through the construction of furniture,’ said Mr Willy Nyesi, carpenter and joiner. ‘Our profession is essential to supporting the real estate sector, which is vital to national growth,’ he added. Mr Nyesi encouraged young people to take up the trade, explaining that ‘carpentry offers many opportunities for young people, who can find it a rewarding and innovative profession’.

He also pointed out that the sector faces challenges, particularly in terms of equipment, noting that carpentry tools are often prohibitively expensive, making them difficult to acquire.  ‘State aid in the form of cost reductions on this equipment would be welcome,’ he said, adding that professionals in the sector are also convinced that locally produced furniture is of equal or even superior quality to imported furniture. ‘We have the capacity to produce high-quality furniture that meets the needs of our market,’ he said. He also called for government support for the carpentry sector to promote local labor in various public markets in order to help them overcome the challenges they face. CPA/
