DRC: Fally Ipupa calls on Congolese musicians to take artistic risks

Kinshasa, October 1st, 2026 (CPA).- Congolese singer Fally Ipupa has called on musicians in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to take artistic risks, encouraging them to step out of their comfort zones and explore new musical horizons, according to a video viewed by CPA on Thursday. “When I released my first song, a song known throughout the world, entitled ‘Sweet Life’, it was neither rumba nor hip-hop, just good music. The defenders of rumba told me: ‘What? What kind of song are you releasing for us?’ But today, everyone does a bit of everything. And after three months, people became crazy about the song. They exclaimed: ‘Wow!’ I think musicians are supposed to take risks,” said Fally Ipupa. The Congolese artist also shed light on his creative process, which draws on linguistic diversity through the use of French, Lingala, English and Swahili. Looking back on his career, Fally Ipupa reflected on 20 years as a solo artist, a period that enabled him to forge his artistic identity. Beyond this aspect, the “Amor” singer explained his choice to define himself first and foremost as an artist rather than as a celebrity, a position that reflects his musical philosophy. Regarding his current musical activities, he announced last Tuesday on social media two concerts in Cameroon, scheduled for December 17th, 2026, at Majestic (formerly Canal Olympia) in Douala, and December 20 at the Yaoundé Conference Centre, in addition to two other performances scheduled for December 24th and 25th at Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
