DRC-France: the recognition of the Congolese genocides discussed in Kinshasa

Kinshasa, June 11th, 2026 (CPA). – The recognition of international crimes committed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) by Rwanda, notably the genocides, has been the focus of a discussion on Thursday in Kinshasa between a minister and the French Ambassador for Human Rights, who is currently visiting the country, according to a note seen by CPA.  “The call for the recognition of international crimes, including the genocides committed in DRC, was at the heart of discussions between Samuel Mbemba, the Congolese Minister in charge of Human Rights, and Isabelle Rome, the French Ambassador for Human Rights,” it is read.   According to the same source, Minister Mbemba  has pleaded for the recognition of the genocides committed in  DRC by Rwanda over more than 30 years, before demonstrating to his host, with supporting evidence, the extent of the international crimes, including the genocides, which continue to be committed in DRC. Mr Mbemba has also pointed the finger at Rwanda, led by its leader Paul Kagame, whilst asking the French ambassador to urge her country to recognise these genocides committed in DRC, the source has reported. For her part, the French Ambassador to Rome has praised the quality of the discussions with Minister Mbemba, before taking the information presented to her seriously, the source has indicated, whilst reassuring the Congolese people that they can count on France’s support.  It should be noted that Mr Mbemba has been at the forefront, since his arrival at the Ministry in charge of Human Rights, in seeking recognition of the genocides committed in DRC. In October 2025, he had secured recognition from the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) of the genocides committed in the Lumumba’s country by the Rwandan army. For the Minister in charge of Human Rights, the honour goes solely to the President of the Republic, Felix Tshisekedi, who has dedicated himself to defeat Paul Kagame’s belligerent actions in DRC.
